In Mexico, we celebrate El Día de los Muertos—or The Day of the Dead—every November 2. It is believed that on this day, the spirits of our loved ones return to visit us. This beautiful tradition is deeply rooted in my Mexican culture, and almost everyone honors their departed family members in some way. This race is dedicated to my mom, who recently passed away; to my dad, who died of cancer when I was just five years old; and to my grandma—the reason I started this race in the first place. Her love and passion for our Purépecha culture is what I’ve always honored most, and thanks to her, I carry those roots with pride and love.
I also dedicate this race to all my friends who are no longer with us. I’ve always believed that we only truly die when we are forgotten. I invite you to run with Huarache Turbo and help celebrate 15 years of running through this town. My heart is full of gratitude—for your love, your support, and for always showing up. Thank you for helping me keep this race alive. I’ll be waiting for you at the starting line.
